Amazon Ads manager for authors & publishers

Amazon Ads for books, managed by a working publisher.

I'm Johnny Wang. I've been self-publishing on Amazon KDP since 2010, with more than 3,000 books published, and I've managed Amazon Ads since 2016. I build and run Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display campaigns around the number that matters for a book: your break-even ACoS.

Services

Every Amazon Ads campaign type for books

I set up new ad accounts from scratch or take over campaigns that are spending too much. Each campaign type has a different job, so each book gets the mix that fits its price, genre and royalty.

SP

Sponsored Products

Your book in Amazon search results and on other books' product pages. Most ad-driven book sales come from here, so this is where I start: auto campaigns to discover search terms, then manual campaigns on broad, phrase and exact keywords and on competing ASINs.

Shows in: shopping results and product pages on Amazon, Kindle and Goodreads

SB

Sponsored Brands

A headline ad that features several of your books under a custom message, or one book in a video ad. It works best for series and authors with more than one title, where a reader who finds one book can find the rest.

Shows in: shopping results and product pages, as image or video ads

SD

Sponsored Display

Reaches readers based on the books and categories they browse, including people who viewed your book and didn't buy. I use it to defend your own product pages and to stay in front of readers who are close to a purchase.

Shows in: product pages, on and off Amazon. Availability depends on your account type; I confirm it in the audit.

Included in every engagement

  • Keyword, category and competitor-ASIN research for each book
  • Campaigns structured by type and match type, with names you can follow
  • Bid and budget management inside a daily cap you approve
  • Search-term harvesting and negative keywords to cut wasted spend
  • Weekly optimization based on ACoS, conversion and Kindle Unlimited reads
  • A monthly report: spend, sales, orders, ACoS, ROAS and what I changed

Also available: publishing setup on Amazon KDP and wider distribution through IngramSpark, Lulu and Draft2Digital, including metadata, categories and keywords.

How I set targets

Every campaign starts from your break-even ACoS

ACoS (advertising cost of sales) is what you spend on ads divided by the sales those ads bring in. When ACoS is lower than the share of the price you keep as royalty, the ad pays for itself. I set a target for each book from that number before spending anything.

break-even ACoS = royalty per sale ÷ list price

Kindle Unlimited page reads earn royalties too, but they don't count toward ACoS. I track those separately, so a campaign that looks expensive on paper isn't switched off while it's actually making money.

Break-even ACoS

Example: $4.99 ebook, 70% royalty
$
$
Your break-even ACoS69.9%

Keep ACoS under 69.9% and each ad-driven sale earns more royalty than the ad cost.

Process

How we work together

  1. Audit

Send me your book links. I review price, royalty, categories, the product page and any ads already running.

  2. Research

Keywords, categories and competing ASINs that readers of your book already buy.

  3. Launch

Campaigns go live with a daily budget cap you approve. The ad account stays yours.

  4. Optimize

Every week: bid changes, new negatives, and winning search terms moved into exact-match campaigns.

  5. Report

A monthly report in plain English: what was spent, what it earned, and what changes next.

About

A publisher first, then an advertiser

I published my first book on Amazon KDP in 2010 and I'm still publishing today. My team and I have now published more than 3,000 books.

I've published through Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Lulu and Draft2Digital, so I know how each platform handles formats, pricing and distribution. I started managing Amazon Ads in 2016, and the campaigns I run for clients follow the same process I use on our own books.

Since 2017 I've also taught Amazon KDP self-publishing in Taiwan, through seminars and workshops for new authors and publishers. I work with clients in English and Mandarin Chinese.

FAQ

Questions authors ask before we start

Do I need to give you my Amazon password?

No. You invite me as a user from your Amazon Ads account settings, and you can change or remove my access at any time. The account, the campaigns and the data always stay yours.

What's a good ACoS for a book?

It depends on how much of the price you keep. A $4.99 ebook at the 70% royalty rate can break even near 70% ACoS, while a paperback with high printing costs might break even at 25%. I calculate a target for each book and manage to it, rather than chasing one number for everything.

How much should I budget for ads?

There's no fixed minimum. At the start, the budget needs to be large enough for each campaign to collect clicks and data for a few weeks. We agree on a daily cap before anything goes live, and I stay inside it.

How soon will I see results?

The first two to four weeks are mostly about collecting data: which search terms convert and which only spend. Most of the improvement comes after that, from weekly optimization. Expect a clear picture by the end of the first month.

Can you take over campaigns I already run?

Yes. I start with an audit of your current campaigns, keep what's working, pause what's wasting money, and restructure the rest so it's easy to manage and report on.

What do your monthly reports include?

Spend, sales, orders, ACoS and ROAS for each book and campaign, Kindle Unlimited reads where they apply, and a short list of what I changed and what I plan to test next.

Can you help me publish the book too?

Yes. I can set up your book on Amazon KDP and distribute it more widely through IngramSpark, Lulu and Draft2Digital, including categories, keywords and metadata, so it's ready to advertise from day one.

How do we get started?

Order through Fiverr, or email me with your book links. I'll reply with what I'd change first and how I'd structure your campaigns.
